Loquita is for the colour lovers, rule breakers, people who would rather stand out than fit in.

I make one-of-a-kind leather bags, using as many rescued materials as possible. This leads to some pretty beautiful and unexpected combinations.

As a teenager, I learned to sew leather from my mom, who was an upholsterer. I've been following my creative instincts ever since.

Every bag is dreamed up and handmade in my studio on Salt Spring Island, BC. No factories. No formulas. No two alike.

Just a little magic, a touch of bravery, and a whole lot of heart.

TOO GOOD TO THROW AWAY.

I’ve always had a soft spot for the things other people overlook: discarded leather, forgotten fabric samples, rugs, curtains, beautiful upholstery scraps that deserve another adventure.

I love the challenge of working with what's in front of me. Playing with colour, mixing textures, and finding beauty in things that weren't necessarily meant to go together.

Sometimes the materials have their own ideas. For me, that's half the fun.

The outside of your bag might get all the attention, but I think the inside deserves a little pizzazz too.

Wild patterns. Unexpected colours. Linings that make you smile every time you open your bag.

I put just as much thought into the inside as the outside.

Because who says the lining has to be boring?

Where other people see an old leather jacket, I see possibilities.

I've been making bags for 25 years, but I've been ripping things apart and putting them back together for much longer than that.

I've always been drawn to vintage materials: they have more character and more potential.

This is what fuels Loquita. Pieces that have already lived one life get the chance to become something entirely different, which is good for me, good for you, and good for the planet.

I guess I've always believed that the best things don't necessarily start from scratch.

Sometimes the best things begin with a second chance.
